Book Discussion

Fri 17 Oct 2014
1:15 PM - 2:30 PM

Florence Room

This month, Frank Johns will lead the continuing discussion of The Fifties by David Halberstam, non-fiction, 1993.

The Fifties is a historical account about the decade of the 1950s in the United States. Halberstam separately tracks many of the notable trends and figures of the post-World War II era, starting with Harry Truman’s stunning Presidential victory in 1948 against Thomas E. Dewey. Halberstam chronicles many political and cultural trends during the decade.

Book Discussion Group meets the third Friday of each month except December, July, and August at 1:15, and usually end around 2:30. Tea, coffee, and cookies are served.

We read non-fiction that includes current events, politics, history, biography, and autobiography, and also read fiction. Members suggest the books, then the group decides which to discuss. The person who suggested a title is the discussion leader for that book, and brings the cookies.

We hope you will join us!
