What is the makeup of a man who failed at every job as a civilian, including farming, store clerk, business, and real estate? However, he was able to lead the United States Army to a resounding victory over the Southern Confederacy, ending the Civil War. He is considered one of our worst-rated presidents and squandered hundreds of thousands of dollars in personal investments. Yet we honor him today.
Norton London has been interested in Civil War history since childhood. He teaches 19th century American history at Cuyahoga Community College in the Encore program and Baldwin Wallace University in the Institute for Learning in Retirement program. Before that, he was a history instructor at the Lakeland Community College for Adult Education. He is a founder of the Northeast Ohio Civil War Roundtable.
